I have built a nonlinearcircuits sloth lfo, the regular version. Sloth is a chaotic lfo. The output is based on the lorenz system. It is a system of ordinary differential equations. It is notable for having chaotic solutions for certain parameter values and initial conditions. In particular, the lorenz attractor is a set of chaotic solutions of the lorenz system which, when plotted, resemble a butterfly or figure eight (very much from wikipedia). The sloth has two outputs x and y. Think of them as coordinate pairs. The output will probably never repeat itself but there is a pattern. I have built the regular sloth it usually takes approx 15 seconds to make a rough figure 8, one cycle in the “butterly”. Now i’m testing the module in different ways. In this sound i have connected white noise to a filter. The filter frequency is controlled by sloth (x output). In this patch i have set the initial frequency low. That’s why there is a low humming wind noise between the “tops”. The output sound from filter goes to reverb. The sound is more a study of sloth behavior than an attempt to create a great wind sound.

Recorded on the shortest day of the year at the edge of a lake where the wind was gusting from the south at 15 to 20 miles an hour. At the beginning you hear some geese in the distance. This recording was made using my sony pcm m-10 with it's internal microphones set to level 5 input volume. I actually placed the recorder, carefully, in a crook of some branches in an oak tree about 5 feet above the ground---very near a big clump of dead and brown oak leaves. . . . This gives you that wonderful sound of the wind hissing through the leaves.

Early spring thunderstorm in north central oklahoma recorded on 05/02/2018 starting at about 9:30 pm cdt. Recorded in the middle of the country by placing a mic outside the man cave window of my house. The storm starts with light rain and some medium distance thunder. At about 4:00 mins the wind starts to pick up and by 5 mins the wind sound drowns out everything else (50-60 mph gusts). By 6:00 mins the wind is fading as the storm front passes. By 9:00 mins it’s just soft rain and occasional thunder. At about 13:00 mins, the thunder starts picking up a bit. At about 17:00 mins it starts raining harder again, with occasional thunder, until the end. A couple of human noises were edited out, and noise reduction was applied.

5 1/2 minute recording using zoom h6 recorder of a storm front that passed through cincinnati on 4/9/2020 (which included 4 smaller f0 tornadoes). Made up of 3 segments put together. First segment (0:00) is rain and hail, second segment (1:20) includes tornado warning siren going off with one very loud thunder just before it shuts down, final segment (4:40) is rain and wind.

This is a recording made just outside my window. A helicopter flew over just a minute later, twice! i used a cheap large diaphragm condensor mic, with a plastic bendable tube around it, pointing just outside of my window. Comprised of a marsquake heard by nasa's insight probe, modified to make it loop seamlessly, amplified cause it was too quiet and added a wahwah effect to give a throbbing sound like the planet is alive.

An unwavering "swooshing" that cuddles and curls around the flexible, thick-resin-filled pine needles. Also, from time to time, you hear the sound of the wind rattling some dead and brown oak leaves; oak leaves which are still stubbornly hanging on to their parent tree. I purposely did only a very bare minimum of post-processing on this sound so as to keep it as realistic as possible. Yes, there are quite a few wind rumbles that i toned down just a little bit. I did not totally get rid of the wind rumbles. I did this on purpose so you the true feeling of " being there " on that mild, but still raw cold day of spring could still be felt. At 4:35 into the soundscape the trilling of a pine warbler is heard---a warble of warm-sounding notes fighting back stubborn winter. I was recording wind that blows in my window, but the zoom h2 placed on a (cheap) mic stand after some time started to bend itself downwards. It hit the curtain/drape in my window and rubbed itself against it until reached the lowest position - the mic stands arm stopped gently as it started. This produced a very interesting sound that i totally didn't expect to find on the recording. Edited with audacity.
